| 22 jul 2006 | | Bring the Troops Home. | Just when did we exchange the Blue Beret for the American assault helmet? Without any discussion Canada has gone to war, occupying countries and engaging in battle, completely bypassing the democratic process. Why aren’t we trying to emulate Switzerland instead of America. Why do we want to swap a tradition for neutrality and peace-keeping to support an empire driven to rape and pillage? What happened to civilisation? Why is humanity descending once more into the abyss of war?
We are told we are improving the lives of the populations of these countries, contrary to the facts that we are killing civilians, destroying their infrastructure, and supporting war lords who have no mandate and protecting the cultivation and supply of narcotics world wide.

That the victor writes the history has always been true. Therefore the invaders can state whatever lies they wish with no opportunity for it to be disputed.
It has always been the case that when a Politian is weak at home he will go abroad to heighten his profile (see world history for numerous examples). Nightlight Harper has a minority government and, thank God, little opportunity to pursue his policies at home. So off he goes abroad the Great Improver to impact the lives of people who have never heard of him. Makes you almost long for Dithers Martin. If only the Liberals had not turned into a bunch of thieves believing that they had the right to take what ever they wanted. They had to teach Nightlight to smile. Apparently he is not a warm person and has an almost sinister look about him. Like all politicians anyone that fights to get the top must have a ruthless streak and conviction that he is right and everyone else wrong. This tends to ensure that the megalomaniac is more likely to reach the top than the appeaser. Or the alternate system where big money buys the position for their candidate, in which cases any egocentric can be placed at the top.
So now we send our troops to foreign countries to kill people who will hate us and want to avenge the deaths. This is probably too easy a concept for the spin doctors to understand when they live in a world of deceit and intrigue. Truth is the first casualty in any war.
If only all the Great Improvers would take their troops, go home and deal with their own problems. They seem to have all the answers to other countries problems but no solution to their own.
Has the American Industrial Military Complex extended its reach above the 49th parallel into Canada? The last budget would certainly tend to confirm this view with the increases in military spending. Watch for further ever increasing expenditure, accompanied by the excuse that it is necessary to reduce funding to social programmes to pay for it. Look to the states where this scenario has already played out there.
It is probably too late to reverse this disastrous policy and I doubt the Canadian public are sophisticated enough to see through the government controlled propaganda which the acquiescent media broadcasts. In which case we will have got what we deserve but not what we asked for.
There are already cases in the States and Britain where military personal have had the courage to refuse to fight an illegal war. They are facing the consequences of the full might of the military and the government who do not want to see this display of responsible thinking spread. These guys are the real heroes. They represent an example for anyone who has a conscience to follow.
In the old days if a king went to war he would lead his troops into battle. Nowadays the people who call for the sacrifice of the nations young lives, though they exclude their children, are vindictive old men, armchair warriors, cowards, a past generation of draft dodgers who avoid getting anywhere close to a conflict. From the safety of an office with their fat asses in the comfort of a padded chair you hear them call for taking the fight to the enemy, take the enemy out, renew the conflict, punish the enemy, kill the foe, destroy, maim, bomb. This we are led to believe will make a safer world. They tell us, the sacrifice will have to go on for decades, for generations. Oh goody I’m glad there is a plan. I thought we were being led by a bunch of crazies to Nutland via the Insaneville valley of tribulation.
Wake up everyone this nightmare is no dream.
