| aug 14 2008 | | Georgia | Shock horror! A super-power invades a small sovereign nation illegally. The pretense is freeing the people from oppression. The actual reason is oil. Civilians are killed, infrastructure is bombed, tanks roll in. you might be forgiven for thinking I was writing retrospectively about Iraq. No, this is Russia's back yard and the Americans are appalled that it is happening as they are friends with the Georgian government and greedily eying their oil and gas infrastructure. The irony of the events is lost or totally ignored by the American Administration. Colonialism is alive and well in the 21st century. We have either learnt nothing or learnt our lessons very well depending on your position of power.
