| nov 03 2007 | | Rewind. | I am fed up with so-called experts changing their opinions to fit the current information. They are always on the TV telling people how to interpret current events and how it will play out in the future. Later when things are going belly-up back they come with a different take on how things are playing out and what will happen. Invariably they are wrong each and every time they open their mouths. These can be so-called experts, can be politicians, can be government ministers or the talking heads from TV. Now if you merely want to pay someone to go on the TV and guess about what is going on, then I’m up for it. Plus I’m a lot funnier. And cheap.
The best example of this is the housing crisis.
Even though anyone with a wit of intelligence saw what was coming way in advance, this is how the official story played out.
There is no problem.
The problem is small.
The problem is solved.
There is no problem.
Well there is a problem but it affects a very small market.
The problem can not spill over into the main market.
What problems?
Things are getting better.
Two years out we will be laughing about this.
Fuck it’s every where.
Booya my people are losing their huge bonuses.
Throw money at the problem.
Cut rates.
Bail-out banks.
We’re going down, rich bastards to the life-boats.
Now all I am asking for is that every time one of these planks comes on the TV, as he is spouting, they roll down the screen previous quotes from him/her on that topic. Is that too much to ask that we can make an informed judgement on whether the person in fronts of us is trustworthy or a total whackcase. There are only so many people whose opinion I trust on the TV or in print and that trust has been built up by them being right a lot of the time. I don’t expect anyone to be right all of the time but I do appreciate a consistent read of events that plays out in the future.
What me to make a prediction? A cast-iron guarantee? The US dollar is going down and gold is going up. Now how difficult was that?
