| apr 26 2007 | | Outrage. | In the forward to his new book Lee Iacocca wrote “where’s the outrage?” the quote continues, "Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, "Stay the course." Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned Titanic. I'll give you a sound bite: Throw the bums out! You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore. The President of the United States is given a free pass to ignore the Constitution, tap our phones, and lead us to war on a pack of lies. Congress responds to record deficits by passing a huge tax cut for the wealthy (thanks, but I don't need it). The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs. While we're fiddling in Iraq, the Middle East is burning and nobody seems to know what to do. And the press is waving pom-poms instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of America my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for.”
David Walker the Comptroller General of the United States wrote, "I would argue that the most serious threat to the United States is not someone hiding in a cave in Afghanistan or Pakistan but our own fiscal irresponsibility."
If you think I get wound up about issues you should read Mogambo Guru on a regular basis. This guy uses “freaking” and exclamation points far more often than I do and is right on the money. He claims to be medicated in order to get through the day in a world where there appears to be no values, logic doesn’t apply and the public accept cheating, lying, thieving leaders, as just the way it is.
To avoid becoming completely wound up on a daily basis I have had to separate myself from the mainstream world. Particularly print and television media, forget radio, who the hell listens to that? These supposedly commercial enterprises have become compliant dispersers of government propaganda, utterly devoid of balance or critique. Control the media and you control the people. Goebbels lessons were well learnt.
Now don’t get me wrong. This is not a rant against the United States only. Check out Canada (we do it nicer), England, Australia or Zimbabwe, it is difficult to find an honest politician, an honest business leader or an investigative media. It is due to the fact that the media is not doing its job that we find crooks can carry on with their nefarious activities with little chance of exposure. And don’t get me started on the Courts where the chances of a meaningful conviction against these untouchables are rare. Justice is blind but a good decision depends on your pocket book.
Maybe outrage is not the answer but neither is complacency.
